Welcome to tailor2job ("we," "our," or "us"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our website and services at tailor2job.com (the "Service").

Please read this privacy policy carefully. If you do not agree with the terms of this privacy policy, please do not access the Service.

1. Information We Collect

When you register for an account or use our Service, we may collect:

  • Account Information: Email address, name (optional), and encrypted password
  • Resume Data: Work experience, education history, skills, certifications, and contact information that you include in your resumes
  • Job Information: Job descriptions you provide for resume tailoring purposes

Information Collected Automatically

When you access our Service, we may automatically collect:

  • Device Information: Browser type, operating system, and device type
  • Usage Data: Pages visited, time spent on pages, features used, and referring website
  • IP Address: Anonymized for analytics purposes

2. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to collect information and improve our Service.

Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for the Service to function and cannot be disabled. They include:

  • Authentication session cookies (to keep you logged in)
  • Security tokens
  • Cookie consent preferences

Analytics Cookies (Require Consent)

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to understand how visitors interact with our Service. Google Analytics collects:

  • Anonymized IP addresses
  • Pages visited and time spent
  • Browser and device information
  • Traffic sources and user flow
  • User actions and feature usage events (see below)

User Identification for Authenticated Users

When you are logged in and have accepted analytics cookies, we link your GA4 session to your authenticated account using a pseudonymous user ID. This allows us to:

  • Understand cross-session user behavior (e.g., how often you return to the Service)
  • Measure feature adoption across your sessions
  • Identify where users encounter friction in the product

Important: The user ID sent to Google Analytics is your internal account identifier only. It does not contain your email, name, or any other personally identifiable information. Google does not use this data for advertising and cannot identify you personally from this ID.

Privacy-Friendly Web Analytics (Legitimate Interest)

We use Vercel Web Analytics, a privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics tool, to collect basic performance and usage metrics such as page views and web vitals (page load speed, interactivity, visual stability). Vercel Analytics:

  • Does not use cookies or local storage
  • Does not collect personally identifiable information
  • Does not track users across websites
  • Only records aggregate, anonymized page-level metrics

We process this data under the legal basis of legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)) to monitor the technical performance and reliability of our Service. This processing does not require your consent because it is strictly necessary for providing a functional website and does not impact your privacy rights.

Events We Track

To improve our Service and understand how users interact with features, we track the following anonymized events (only with your consent via GA4):

  • Authentication: Account creation, login, and logout events (method used, e.g. email or Google)
  • Resume Actions: Resume creation, upload, opening, deletion, and PDF export (success or failure) with metadata (template, sections count, paper size, export duration)
  • Job Description: Job description addition and skip events with metadata (has company, title, keywords)
  • Tailoring Features: AI verb optimizer usage (bullets accepted/rejected), AI bullet writer usage (theme, option selected), and skill inserter usage (categories, skills count)
  • Editor Actions: Template changes, template customization (font, color, spacing), paper size changes, section additions/deletions, and item reordering
  • Onboarding: Tutorial completion/skip, sample data usage, manual build selection
  • Engagement: Dashboard views, experience database additions, feedback submissions
  • Performance: Feature timing metrics (PDF export duration, auto-save duration) to monitor Service responsiveness
  • Funnel Progress: Aggregated funnel stage progression for understanding user journeys

Important: These events do not include any personal information, resume content, or job description text. We only track aggregated metrics and counts to understand feature adoption and usage patterns.

You can manage your cookie preferences through the cookie consent banner that appears when you first visit our site. You can also opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
